No Regard For Members

I’ll keep this simple so that everyone who reads this can clearly understand the risk they are taking by joining Bestmed.

On the 8th of March I was taken to ER at Morningside Mediclinic with an irregular elevated heartbeat, breathlessness and chest pain.

The doctor I was assigned to recommended a series of expensive cardiac diagnostic tests. I attempted to call Bestmed several times for authorisation. I was unable to get hold of anyone and was informed by a recorded message that I should call back during office hours.

Because I was short on personal funds I was forced to take the cheapest test on offer to try determine if I was experiencing a life-threatening cardiac event.

My takeaway is that if I should experience an accident or sudden critical illness, I should be considerate enough to ensure that I only do so during Bestmed’s office hours. The level of disregard for patient welfare on display was staggering.

The subsequent process of cancelling my medical aid with this organization was cold, unsympathetic and unfriendly. As a result I feel more like I have left an abusive relationship than as if I have cancelled a medical aid.

To Bestmed, please don’t paste a smarmy, face-saving corporate boilerplate CRM reply to this message. I want nothing further to do with you – I just feel like it is my moral duty to inform others of my experience of dealing with your company.
