New name required for bestmed
After 12 years with bestmed I decided the enough is enough and it's time to look at other options, "Best" med is no longer a fitting name, bestmed scheme tarrifs and savings plans is not keeping up with the current market, Co payments is a normality these days, declined authorizations. My wife lying in hospital and a policy dictates that authorization get declined, not the expertise of the Neurosurgeon overseeing her case? Good riddance

Kindly be informed that authorization for admission was granted. However, it does not include any scan requests/investigations or surgery.
Scans will be funded from available outpatient benefits as conservative treatment in hospital is not a standard benefit.
Any procedures should be pre-authorized before any surgery is commenced. The hospital/doctor may provide the scheme with relevant clinical information to review the case.
With regards to scheme tariffs, Our goal is to provide top-quality healthcare services at affordable prices, and therefore offer our members our footprint of 17 700 providers to enable you to get the best possible care across all Scheme options.
A DSP is a healthcare provider that is considered the preferred choice for members’ healthcare needs. By making use of a DSP, members will have no or minimum co-payments.
The choice of a network provider remains that of the member and/or the treating healthcare professional, however using a non-DSP may result in the member being liable for the payment of additional costs.

18 Aug 2023, 13:12Ok I see, so basically when you have an emergency please take the time to look for the cheaper option, Doctor, radiologist, hospital, anesthesiologist etc. or just ignore a referral to a specific doctor and refer back to the DSP list, the MRI scan you rejected was done (out of pocket) and revealed serious issues with the lumbar spine, so there is another authorization coming your way to inject the nerves in order to releave the pain which is not a serious condition according to your one size fits all policies. I'll be waiting for the authorization rejection.
