If I could give negative 10 Stars I would, This absolute joke of a medical has now caused me to have to delay a very serious hip replacement surgery because according to them they don't cover it, unless I change my plan to the top and most expensive plan, this after I sent through their own benefits list which states that hip replacement is covered, the doctor even managed to get the cost down to under what they say is covered but yet still after much back and forth arguing and letters from doctors, the consultant (whos name I wont mention) just used every excuse not to cover the opp, her job seems to be to just deny claims and find any reason not to, the reason I was given was that I didn't fall and brake the hip and I don't have arthritis so they wont cover it unless I pay an extra 6k a month...
I have now changed medical aids to a much better scheme who I won't mention in a 1 star revue, but when I explained what the issue with bestmed was they were even stumped and said it makes no sense, I am on a plan that basically costs the same as The Bestmed plan and they have said yes the opp is definitely covered and I have more benefits than with Bestmed, sadly there is a waiting period which Is unavoidable because of the change and so a very serious opp is delayed thanks to Bestmed.
Bottom line, if your thinking of joining Bestmed, save your self the frustration and just go with a proper medical scheme that isn't a ****, I'm sure that absolutely any other medical aid company would be better

- Pace 2
- Pace 3
- Pace 4
Your previous Bestmed benefit option does not cover the requested procedure (Hip-replacement) unless it is a Prescribed Minimum Benefit (PMB).
Prescribed Minimum Benefits (PMBs) are minimum benefits that, by law, must be provided to all medical scheme members. This includes the provision of diagnosis, treatment, and care costs for:
- A limited set of 271 conditions as specified in Annexure A of the Regulations to the Medical Schemes Act.
- A list of 26 chronic conditions which are also referred to as the Chronic Disease List (CDL).
- An emergency medical condition refers to any sudden and/or unexpected health condition that requires immediate medical treatment.
