********** billing of my account

I resigned at Santam Insurance 05 October 2016. Bestmed was the medical aid i was on and i had to join the new medical aid at the new company. So i enquired with bestmed about notice period to cancel medical aid and they said 30 days and i gave in notice. Beginning of November my new medical aid started at the new company.

Problem: Recently i received an email saying i have been handed to credit collection to collect R1251.00 amount owed by me to Bestmed. When i enquired they say its money owed because i cancelled medical aid before period ended and neither Santam insurance Nor bestmed informed me of this before i cancelled the medical aid.

I want Bestmed to write-off this amount because should i have been advised correctly upon cancellation i was going to delay the start of the new medical aid until this has been settled.

If they do not i their name will be all over the social media and I will approach Ombudsman for the ruling on this matter as well as competitions board and FAIS. I am giving them 24hrs to sort it out.

I believe Santam HR as part of exit strategy should have also ensured that i am in better off position in terms of this amount and advised me of the options i have. When i spoke to Santam this morning they said they wont get involved.
