Extra payments for CHRONIC MEDS is a ripoff.
We have been with Bestmed for two years now. Our previous med scheme went into liquidation. We had to pay 50% late joiners fee which we still do. Anyway, all the years the previous one and bestmed had no co-payments for chronic meds. From Feb of 2025, they arbitrary put co-payments of 20% on CHRONIC meds on my wife's one which is totally unfair. They increased the monthly premiums for 2025 by over 11% which is way over the inflation rate, and then have the nerve to force us to pay 20% co-payments on top of the increase. It seems they are forcing people to cancel or what?

25 Feb 2025, 14:45Dear Ahmed Moosa
Thank you for reaching out and sharing your recent experience with our customer service. We sincerely apologize for any frustration and inconvenience this may have caused.
Please find below the reasons why co-payments may apply to certain medicines:
- When medicine is selected for the treatment of a CDL, non-CDL, or PMB condition that is not on the formulary.
- When the chosen medicine exceeds the Maximum Reimbur*****t Price (MRP).
- When the provider charges a dispensing fee higher than the amount reimbursed by the Scheme.
- Standard co-payments apply to formulary medicine for non-CDL conditions (except on Pace4).
Should you require any further clarification, please do not hesitate to contact us. Your well-being as a valued member of Bestmed is important to us.
Best regards

25 Feb 2025, 18:10Thank you for your reply. However, I have to disagree with your answer. Firstly, my wife's Chronic meds is a generic. It was covered in full until this year february 2025 which is strange. If is was the original I could understand, but it is a GENERIC for epilepsy- Degranol. Not Tetranol (not sure if i spelt it correctly)
Second, my meds is also for chronic, for heart, is Emcor a GENERIC - - original is Cardicor. From my understanding a Chronic condition meds should be covered in full especially if it is a Generic.
Thank you.
