Do not get involved with Bestmed!!

This is the worst medical aid in South Africa. If you can you should avoid them without hesitation. In 2017 I became a member on my own after being on fathers medical aid, and I was on the scheme of Pace 1 the fees for this were R 3055 a month. Therefore I have paid for January and February a total amount of R 6110 and I have not used any of my medical aid benefits because I was out of the country and only returned on the 27th of January. As I experienced some financial difficulties I downgraded my medical aid to Beat 2 from the first of March 2017 which cost me R1550. I was then on this scheme until I changed to my fiance's medical aid on the 1st of July 2017. When I left BestMed no one told me that I had to pay any outstanding fees. Now I am being informed that my account was handed to debt collectors and that I need to pay an amount of R 1766.16. I was never informed of this before and it is now March 2019, 20 months have passed since I left BestMed and now my account if being handed over to debt collectors?! I find this very unacceptable. While being on Beat 2 I had numerous of my own medical bills that I had to pay out of my pocket because BestMed refused to pay. At the end I was paying for all of my bills and paying BestMed monthly. I would really urge you to stay away from them and chose a medical aid that will not suddenly give your alleged account over to debt collectors, and also if you read some of the reviews on Hello Peter you will see I am not the only person they did this to.
