BESTMED POOR SERVICE
I have been a BESTMED member for years, now when I took of a dependant all of a sudden there was another month waiting period for me as the main member during which time I was hospitalised and the medical aid denied hospitalisation and I was transferred to Leratong hospital where I almost died. Now I have to pay the hospital fees for the first 3 days in ICU at the private hospital due to **** poor record keeping from BESTMED. I will NOT recommend them as a medical aid

The Medical Schemes Act (the Act) provides for waiting periods and/or premium penalties to be imposed on new applicants to a medical scheme and members who move from one scheme to another.
As per the rules of the scheme, we may impose upon a person in respect of whom an application is made for membership or admission as a Dependant, and who was not a beneficiary of a medical scheme for a period of at least 90 (ninety) days preceding the date of application:
-A general waiting period of up to 3 (three) months
-A condition-specific waiting period of up to 12 (twelve) months.
The scheme has your records from your previous membership. However, your current membership is considered as a new membership due to the reasons listed above and thus the waiting periods were imposed.
