Bestmed Pace 3 - not suitable of elderly patients

Pace 3 option:

My mom is 85 and on Bestmed Pace 3 option. She has had one knee replacement and cannot have a second knee replacement as the risk of anaesthetic is too big. My Mom lives with me and can do everything for herself. Getting out of her chair is becoming problematic with the second knee being painful. As she cannot get up on her own, there is the option of a rise and tilt chair. Bestmed does not consider this an option and will rather pay for a wheelchair. So the patient's dignity is not considered. Keeping a person mobile for as long as possible should surely be their objective and not just dumping them in a wheelchair. My mom suffers from incontinence. This again is not recognised when it comes to supplying adult diapers. It comes from the measly day-to-day savings. My Mom's medical aid is 25% of her income. It does not come cheap. My Mom has GAP cover. It is not as if we have not considered medical costs and the implications or are irresponsible. She is on a good plan with GAP cover but a rise and tilt chair costing R18000,00 will not be considered, although she can have a hip replacement, should she fall while trying to get up. Oh no, she can't! She would have had the knee replacement instead, except that the anaesthetic is a risk. So she wouldn't be able to have any surgery. Can Bestmed explain why something like a rise and tilt is not considered as an aid in mobility and why adult diapers are not paid as chronic. It is not as if my Mom chose to be incontinent. She is prepared to give up her maternity benefits at 85 in lieu of adult diapers.
