BestMed - Medical aid without ethics
Be very aware and careful with BestMed. They send you quotes to catch you, and as soon as you show interest, they smack you with documentation that requires information from 18 years ago(I would like to know how many people know this info), or you get a penalty to push your premiums up. Absolutely disgusting business with no ethics. I would recommend to stay away from them.

Thank you for reaching out to us and bringing your concerns to our attention. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience or dissatisfaction you may have experienced.
We acknowledge your frustration with the additional information requested. Kindly be informed that prospective members must, prior to admission, complete and submit the application forms required by the Scheme. This includes providing satisfactory evidence regarding themselves and their dependents, such as age, income, state of health, and any prior membership or admission as a dependent of a member of any other medical scheme. Additionally, submitting previous membership certificates from a South African registered medical scheme serves as relevant proof of previous medical aid cover. This ensures that the correct and relevant underwriting is app**** to your new profile.
In accordance with Regulation 131 of the Medical Schemes Act (Act 131 of 1998)
late joiner penalties can be imposed on beneficiaries over the age of 35. Depending on the number of years the beneficiary did not belong to a medical scheme, a late joiner penalty will be added to the member's monthly risk contribution. The penalty is calculated on a sliding scale, as shown in the table below, based on the total number of years from age 35 effective 1 April 2001, where a beneficiary did not belong to a medical scheme.
I trust you will find this feedback useful. If you need more information or support from our client relations communication team, please do not hesitate to contact us again. Your wellbeing as a valued client of the scheme is important to us all at Bestmed
Best Regards,

19 Jul 2024, 10:33Its so nice you can quote all the legal requirements, but when you have 12 years previous history, and you submitted a quote based on that info, how can you justify that after you quoted on the info you had, to then require more information that may potentially change the quoted amount?
You shouldn't have quoted until all the relevant info was received, the fact you sent a quote indirectly confirms all the required information was supp****.
