Bestmed Let Down
This Medical Aid is a serious let down. I have been with them for about 7 years now. Only claiming medicines, paying for doctors myself. Now when I need a gastroscopy to find a solution for a persistent ho**** voice and cough, I am told I must make a copayment of R11800 and because it is to be done at Donald Gordon and not a day clinic another R3400. I am a teacher how can I possibly afford this? I need my voice for my job! I went onto their website to look for a registered service provider and they only have 3 gastric surgeons. 1 is at Charlotte Maxexe and 2 are at Donald Gordon aswell. No solution!

26 Feb 2021, 13:30 Kindly be advised that on the Beat 2 option, the use of network hospitals is important as the scheme has a special tariff agreement with the hospitals. As per the scheme rules, if the member voluntarily makes use of a non-network hospital, a co-payment of R11,800.00 will apply. You are humbly advised to consider the following:

- Make use of network hospitals with a contracted doctor, if no doctor is available at the preferred network hospital, the member may use a non-dsp doctor and the scheme will fund the service at 100%
- Make use of network hospitals and doctors in other geographical locations in your surrounding area.

26 Feb 2021, 14:15This is ridiculous. A quarter of my salary has gone to medical aid over the last 6 to 7 years. When I joined Bestmed I was told any hospital procedure I was to go for will be covered up to medical aid rates. Now I am told to find a day clinic and not a hospital otherwise an extra copayment is required. The doctor I am going to has agreed to charge me medical aid rates but Bestmed will not cover as it is in a hospital! Go figure!
