Bestmed happy to leave a pensioner cripple and in chronic pain
After weeks of motivations by surgeons and family members, Bestmed have refused a Total Hip Replacement for my 83 year old mother, who has been a loyal member for more than 40 years. They will leave her disabled and in severe crippling pain and at risk of falling causing potential life threatening injury. They have happily taken 40 years of premiums from her, but will not consider using their discretion to use Rule 16.2.1 to approve a mid-year upgrade, for which we will pay, and have offered back pay. A member who has supported them for 40 years is told by them she can wait till November and upgrade. Until November, she can have no quality of life and live in severe pain and distressed, and even then I do not trust that Bestmed will approve her procedure. The powers that be have the power to take this on review, but are swift to decline. Please carefully consider your options when it comes to Bestmed, especially if you are elderly, because you will receive no assistance, even if they state in their own playbook they can assist you. Run far from Bestmed while you can.

I have spoken to you CEO, COO and Executive of Managed Care
I am disgusted as she she is not a frivolous new member and 40 years of premiums surely get consideration even if the plan was insufficient. Nobody can foresee a rapid and painful decline of osteo arthritis.

The matter was escalated, and feedback was communicated to you that joint replacement surgery is an exclusion on Pace 1 for non-PMB conditions.
The mid-year option change is not allowed; as per the medical scheme act, you can change options from the start of a financial year.
Kind regards
Nondumiso

For your information, the member was admitted to ER for dangerously high blood pressure caused by the pain she is in. So you are happy to allow elderly to suffer despite taking her good money for 40 years. Your company should hang their heads in shame. I wil discourage anyone from using Bestmed.
