Bestmed doesn’t pay PMB

I was admitted in Jan for an emergency fracture of my tibial plateau. The Dr told me that if i did not get the operation that i would lose my leg. He potentially needed to put a very expensive plate with *****s in to stabilize my leg. Bestmed gave us authorization for the surgery but refused to pay a large sum for the prosthesis without giving us a reason. Due to my pain & fear of losing my leg i had no option but to do the surgery even though it could cripple me financially. I have pd the amount but feel that due to the fact that it was a PMB condition they should cover the surgery & prothesis in full. I am turning 21 in a few wks which means i need my own med aid as i no longer can be part of my fathers med aid. No one will cover my rehabilitation as they say its an existing condition & thus is excluded for 3 mnths which is the crutial part of my recovery. If they do cover it, i have to pay an extra R4000 per mnth which is unrealistic & unreasonable. I have tried to call Bestmed to resolve this issue but in vain. I feel Bestmed has left me in the lurch. You are paying a **** load of money monthly and the day you get admitted they don’t cover it
