Bestmed do not care for women with Breastlumps

I have been a very happy Bestmed member until my recent contact with Bestmed.

In November 2017 I contacted Bestmed to enquire into the benefits available for psychologist sessions for my daughter. He was very knowledgeable and had a very accurate explanation and course of action. I subsequently started the process of PMB application sent in via provider on the 1st of December. The waiting period would be 5 -10working days. After numerous follow ups by both the service provider and myself the PMB was finally approved. Meanwhile the provider was paid from my savings portion and this is yet to be corrected. The utter frustration of having to clear up your mess via my telephone and hold and hold and hold and getting through to a call centre, the same person every time, who knew very little was quite alarming. Is this not a medical service related business with people health and wellbeing to consider?

We have made another application for 4 sessions and this is yet to be approved. Again we will wait.

The beginning of this year I go for a mammogram after feeling a large and painful lump in my breast. Knowing full well the risk of Breast cancer in my family I proceeded to go to a breast surgeon and discuss my options after a FNA was done. The doctor advises that we remove the Fibro adenoma. I call to get pre authorization today and was at a total loss for words when the lady informs me that you will not pay for this procedure as it will just grow back. The horror, grow back as what I ask you? Did you not claim that you will rather be preventative in nature Bestmed? Should I walk around with a painful lump in my breast and wait for cancer instead of removing a lump now?

I proceed to tell the lady that I will ask the doctor to motivate to which she immediately replies that Bestmed won’t pay for that. So I will receive an SMS to inform me that this has been denied, still nothing to date. I am disgusted with the downright nasty attitude and it leave me with a bitter taste in my mouth and a huge painful lump in my breast.

I have never been as disgusted as this morning, to think that my medical aid would rather I die of cancer given time that help their paying member. I have always been singing your praises to everyone but something has changed and it’s you BESTMED.
