Bestmed declining PMB continuation of care procedure for kidney stone emergency. (Ongoing since January 2026)

I am extremely disappointed with the handling of my claim by Bestmed Medical Scheme. In January 2026, I was admitted as an emergency patient with severe pain and was diagnosed with kidney stones. A stent was inserted during this emergency admission, which was covered. I returned in February 2026 for a follow-up procedure (which was authorised) to remove the stent. While under anaesthesia, additional stones were discovered and treated immediately, and a temporary stent was inserted and removed the following day. This was clearly a continuation of care from the original emergency condition. However, Bestmed has refused to pay certain codes related to this treatment and I am now being told that I may be personally liable for these costs. This is unacceptable for the following reasons: The initial event was an emergency The follow-up procedure was authorised The additional treatment was clinically necessary and performed while I was already under anaesthesia This forms part of the same PMB condition and continuation of care This matter has been ongoing since January 2026 without resolution. I have formally requested a reassessment under PMB regulations and full payment of all related accounts. If this is not resolved urgently, I will escalate the matter to the Council for Medical Schemes. I expect Bestmed to honour their obligations and resolve this without further delay. I have sent an email already. Rukhsar

Your urgent response is required. I have been hanging from January and tomorrow is April.
