Be warned: Only one option for breast reconstruction after mastectomy - take it or leave it!

<p>I was recently diagnosed with breast cancer. I realised to my horror that 'Best'med has only one option for breast reconstruction after mastectomy - a silicone implant. You either have to take it - or no benefit is available for reconstruction!! The quotation received for DIEP flap surgery is +R200 000 - so you do not have much choice. DIEP flap surgery have a number of advantages over silicone implants. Mastectomy, + DIEP flap, (even with no feeling in breast skin, and no nipple) - you will at least feel more feminine, because it looks more natural...especially while taking the Tamoxifen...</p> <p>If you happened to be a man diagnosed with testicular cancer however, you have the option to upgrade to a plan that covers expensive Brachytherapy .. Women do not have a choice - DIEP flap is not covered on any plan!</p>
