All about the money

<p>My mom had a stroke in December 2016 while visiting my brother in Cape Town. She was registered for PMB and Bestmed authorised the rehabilitation on a week to week basis. The doctor and the******s sent through motivations and indicated that the rehabilitation will take at least six weeks. Monday I was informed that they will only pay up to Friday (end of week 4). I phoned them and told them that she needs a further two weeks of rehabilitation as her balance is still not correct and she cannot walk properly on her own and is prone to falling. The call centre agent told me that the case worker will phone me back by 14:00. This did not happen and now I have been informed by the hospital that my mom will be discharged by 12:00 tomorrow and I please need to make arrangements to pick her up. So I now need to fly down to Cape Town to go get her and arrange for therapy in Pretoria (where she stays). The doctor told me that there are medical aids (like Discovery) that really supports their members and know the importance of completing the rehabilitation. Clearly Bestmed is not one of those medical aids. It is clear that money is more important to them than the wellbeing of their members. Thank you Bestmed for not phoning me back and thank you for making it clear that members are just numbers in your books.</p>
