Bad experience with Bernina Mosselbay
I want to share a most unpleasant experience I had with the staff of Bernina Mosselbay in October this year. I am the owner of a Bernina sewing machine. The machine was in good working order , however I decided to have it serviced as it is not a new machine. I took it to the local Bernina agent in Mosselbay, and asked them to contact me BEFORE any service or work done to the machine with a final quote. I was told at that stage that a standard service is approximately R 690.00. After waiting for 10 days and not hearing from them , I decided to phone. Much to my surprise I was told by Nico the technician that the machine is ready and I can come and collect it. I told told him that I was supposed to be contacted before any work was to be done. I was told that he did contact me and a man answered the phone and told him to proceed.(I am a widow and has lived on my own for the past 18 years ! ) I then went to see them and was presented with an invoice for R 1 219.00 ! Nico then admitted that he made a mistake and actually confused me with somebody else. He then repeatedly told me how he had searched to find secondhand parts to fit to my machine to presumably cut costs. He then became rude and actually shouted in my face that maybe I wanted to have the machine repaired for nothing. I felt insulted and humiliated by his attitude and rather than to cause a scene , paid the amount on the invoice and took my machine and left. I then send an e-mail to the owner of the store , Ina Smit to tell her of my experience. She rep**** that Nico have indeed made mistake , and have apologised for his behaviour and also offered me goods in the store to the value of R 200.00 I am however still out of pocket for approximately R 500.00 Upon contacting Bertie Stevens at Bernina Head Office, I was told that there is nothing they can do , but I must maybe just accept an apology from Nico. I received an letter of apology from Ina Smit admitting their mistake , however their attitude and way of conducting bussiness leaves much to be desired.
