Our experience in Bergvrede apartments started with 3 fines in the first week: 1 for speeding without a valid camera showing the speed and 2 for parking on visitors' parking. All 3 fines were issued without warnings, which is against their code of conduct, and at the time I was dumb enough to pay, thinking the current owner will try to fight it. Apparently the main Trustee went away for a few months, the one who was sending out these fines, and when she came back, the fines continued. For nearly a year there was peace, and here we got warnings for storing things on the balcony which they did not condone, thus we changed it and they ok's it. Yet, 2 days later they sent a fine after I fixed it on the day of the 2nd warning. I have photographic proof with a date stamp. I told my owner I want to contest it, she said we must pay and she will contest it, and here I am, still without the money. Funny thing is, for nearly a year the balcony was fine, but as soon as this trustee returned it was not. Then came the final nail in the coffin. Upon an inspection the groundskeeper got on a ladder to take photos of our balcony. Our daughter is alone at home, and I was at the point of going to the police with this. Nowhere do their rules state that they can use ladders for balcony inspections, and why only on my balcony? Was it to peep on my daughter? Rules state that all inspections should be equally done and rules should be app**** fairly and equally to all. We got a fine for potting soil under our braai, which is not working, so before renting there, make sure to find out if the braai works. But we go fined for potting soil under the braai, something barely visible from the ground, hence the need to climb a ladder to photograph it. 3 days later I went outside and look at the neighbour above us, in their braai is a plant, this is against the rules as well. The next week, the plant was still in the braai, thus I could confirm that they were targetting us and I have in turn laid a complaint with the RHT to get all my fines back, because when I tried going through the CSOS they said only the owner can apply. Another problem was that when I asked for the CSOS approved rules, they always send some ammendment, not a full code of conduct, letting me thing that they never had it, only in June 2026 did they send it out to everyone. The managing agent in one email (which I will use as evidence of ************) said they will remove us from Bergvrede if we do not stop questioning the fines. We moved 2 months after the alleged peeping tom event, and the new owner likes us, so we are not the issue. I have fixed his taps, I have helped him a lot, and I am an engineer. What I do not like is sour people looking to fine you for petty issues.
