Roof leak repair not resolved after payment

I hired Benson the builder to assist with a roof leak at my property in Muizenberg on 10 June 2026. I paid R800 for labour, R50 toward petrol, and R278.88 separately for materials. The total direct cost connected to the attempted repair was R1,128.88. After the work was done, Benson sent a voice note confirming that he had app**** membrane to prevent water from coming through. However, during the next rain, the leak continued. On 14 June 2026, I repeatedly informed him that it was raining and asked him to come inspect the leak while it was visible. He did not come that day. He later acknowledged in WhatsApp messages that he had said he would come if there was a problem, but the issue was still not resolved. On 23 June 2026, he offered only R400 back. I declined this because the R800 was the labour fee, and I had already paid separately for petrol and materials. I am requesting a full refund of the R800 labour fee. I no longer feel comfortable allowing him back onto the property due to how the matter has escalated. I have WhatsApp messages, voice notes, payment proof, the material receipt, and photos/videos of the continued leak. I am sharing this review so that other consumers are careful, get written quotes, confirm guarantees in writing, and keep proper evidence when hiring contractors. This is my personal consumer experience and not a court finding.
