Belvedere: Beware
My parents bought a life right from Belvedere Retirement Village Group to a property (Unit 2) at The Olive Retirement Village, Roodepoort, in 2013. My parents canceled the agreement in January 2016. Their life rights were sold to a new “lessee”, who paid the trust in full in June 2016. In terms of the agreement, my parents should have received their initial purchase price (R135000) after 30 days. After months of waiting, and broken promises, my parents took the matter to their lawyer who has not been able to trace the trustee, Billy Stein. It also seems that Belvedere Trust is now operating under a new name and still building retirement homes in the Roodepoort area. My parents are in their late 70s and have not received one cent from their R1 350 000 “investment” and have accrued over R100 000 in legal fees. It is soul destroying to see my parents taken advantage of like this by ************ developers who prey on the elderly.
