Negligence at Belair Shopping Centre. Randburg

I went to Belair Shopping Centre in Northriding today in the afternoon and I am 6 months pregnant.

I fell at the mall entrance due to water that was on the floor and had not been mopped neither was there a signage on the spot to alert customers that the floor is wet.

I found this appalling. I went to the Spar shop and spoke to management who alerted me to the fact that while they sympathesied with me it was not their flower department that had left the water unmopped or the entrance of the mall without a signage that it was rather Centre management who had to take responsibility.

Upon asking for the Supervisor for Centre management I was referred to external guards who seemed clueless and said they would lodge a complaint with the Centre management while I wanted someone to answerable and map a way forward immediately even to offer funds for a medical scan as I am pregnant and the fall was due to the negligence of the mall staff.

Eventually I requested for the number for the Centre manager supervisor and I contacted them (Allan on a whatsapp call but spoke to Elaine) who said would send me their email contact details so that I relay my complaint on email and no apology was offered rather that I should just email which I find unsympathetic and unprofessional that the aggrieved party should first email and wait to get feedback rather than having a Manager on the ground to take care of such issues instantly.

There after sending the email up to now I have not had any response from the Centre management and one shudders to think if this is the way customers are treated what would happen if someone God forbid breaks a limb on the spot.

While laying the complaint the guards and Spar manager even stated that someone else fell at the same spot yesterday.

I feel for a pregnant lady it is in bad taste to fall due to negligence by the mall staff and have Centre management take time to give feedback or act. It is an awful experience and do not see myself shopping at Belairs shopping Centre again!
