Faulty eye prescription - they wont take responisbility

I am at a loss as to know what to do next.
In February I had an eye test at Bauer optometrists at the Garden centre in Cape Town . I then took the prescription to EyeQ at the Waterfront and had some Lindberg glasses made with varifocal transition lenses which cost me R17,500. They did not seem quite right and I could not read the print on the TV . I went back to Bauer and asked them to check that they had written down the prescription correctly. They said they had and checked the glasses and assured me they were correct.
I tried to live with them but finally in June I went back to EyeQ and they retested my eyes and found I was -1.5 in both eyes rather than -1 in the R and -1.25 in the L (as in the Bauer prescription ).
They offered to redo the lenses at a 50% discount which would cost me R5245. I went ahead and I could then see perfectly . They said the fault was not theirs and I should take it up with Bauer.
I met with a director of Bauer , Warwick Hulbert who said he would speak to a contact at EyeQ as he wanted to do what was ethical . He came back to me and said they could not agree as EyeQ said they had done nothing wrong and Bauer said EyeQ had accepted their prescription and should have contacted them to see if they could have got the lenses redone for free as Bauer had not been paid any money for the glasses and therefore did not want to refund even though their mistake had cost me R5245!
Now Mr Hulbert says:
Dear mr Bolus , I have had very little success in finding a solution to your problem . Neither party is willing to give in or accept responsibility for your present position .
May I ask you to contact the optometric Ombudsman to get an objective opinion and suggestion as how to proceed .
His contact details are : mr Tebogo Vundule . Tel ********** 448
Many thanks
Warwick Hulbert **********

But he has already consulted the Ombudsman who he said was non-committal ! It is now my problem and nothing to do with his optometrists error! He did not even offer to refund the R450 odd rand that it cost for the faulty eye test
Could you help in any way ?
I am a pensioner and can't afford to throw away R5000 but I need to see clearly.
Many thanks
Robert Bolus
Oranjezicht
Cape Town
