Terrible service followed with a faulty product after a few uses.
Let's start from the beginning. When ordering a product, they state that it will be assembled once receiving a 50% deposit, and read within 10 working days, and you can collect it once the full payment is through. I waited 19 work days, and was finally told it can be collected after I sent an email stating I want a full refund if the product is not ready by the following day. (Payment on June 24, ready for collection July 19)
I ordered a pressure canner, which states it will hold a pressure of 103.4kPa (15psi). Upon testing the product, I found that its regulation weight lifts up at 80kPa, and that you need to keep your stove on full heat in order for it to reach and maintain 103.4kPa (I asked some friends who also have Basterfield pressure canners, and their pressure regulators weigh ~89g, while mine was ~82.1g). This is not the way any commercial pressure canner works. I sent an email explaining the problem, and they sent me a new valve and weight.
I received the new weight, expecting it to be heavier, but upon closer inspection of the product, I saw that it has engraved on it "90kPa", which means they sent me the wrong weight, once again. I then sent another email, stating they sent me a weight that is regulated for 90kPa, so they sent me a new one, and again, I received the same weight, this time the engraved mark was buffed out in their workshop so that I cannot see "90kPa".
After bearing with the faulty product, and using it approximately 5 times, when I used it during the week, suddenly steam was leaking out between the lid and base of the canner. I inspected the rubber seal to ensure it was not damaged, and it was perfectly fine. I have not run the canner dry or let it cool down rapidly by adding cold water whatsoever, so I do not see how this problem could be user error. I sent an email to the company, asking what steps to take now, and was told it needs to be sent in to their workshop to be tested, but according to the user's manual, the courier fees will have to be covered by me, even if it the faulty product was not caused by my misuse.
I do not see how any competent engineering company can have such bad customer service, knowingly sell the wrong items with products, and also sell products that cannot even last 10 uses. I would expect a full refund from Basterfield, as this is not the quality of product that I paid nearly R4500 for.
