Extremely poor service

During the last week of October my car would not start, on the 28th October I had the battery replaced by Battery Centre, the car was due to go in for a service to Barons N1 City on the 31st October, so had my car towed in to Barons Ni City on Saturday the 29th October.

On the 31st October I got a call from Barons to say that they would have to replace the fuel breather valve and do a software upgrade in order for my car to start. I gave the go ahead for that to be done at an additional cost of R2109.

I collected the car on the afternoon of the 31st October, but noticed that the idle was not normal but thought it might be due to the fact that this new breather valve had been replaced.

On Wednesday the 2nd November I started to drive the car and the idling was very erratic and the EPC light came on. Left the car at home and called Barons N1 City to advise that I would be having the car towed in on Thursday the 3rd November.

I got a call later on during the day to be told it would cost me a further R8000.00, for them to open up the cylinder head as they suspected there was something wrong. My son then got hold of the service Manager Rodney, who then issued a revised quote of R4145.00. The quote was declined and I went to collect the car on the 5th November. Then the water light came on as well.

I subsequently contacted VW South Africa, to try and get this issue resolved. They were helpful to a point and then never kept their promises of calling back on certain days, I was advised on the 18th of November by Sagheerah Hendricks from VW South Africa that the software upgrade is not for the customers account. It seems like VW SA just reports back on the branch’s findings and do not try and sort out the issues at hand. The service manager Rodney was emailed by me to inform him that my engine cover had not been replaced, according to VW South Africa, they also informed him. I now have a car that I cannot use at all.

My comments are as follows:

· My car never went into Barons with a cylinder problem, why suddenly once the car was there did this come about.

· If my car was driven after the service they would have picked up the erratic idling

· Why was I charged the software upgrade fee.

· To date I have had no contact from barons Ni city about my engine cover

· I want Barons and VW SA to advise how this issue is going to be rectified. I have been inconvenienced due to their incompetence.

· Surely when a major service is done, Barons are supposed to check all aspects of the car and advise of any further issues that may require attention. My engine was not washed, the car came back to me dirty.
