Beware Barons VW, Durban - service levels are gone to the dogs
I am writing to express my extreme dissatisfaction with the service I received during my recent visit to your dealership, where I have been servicing my vehicle since its purchase in 2011. My vehicle, registration number BP52CL-ZN (previously ND 337-514), was booked in on 26 July 2024 for a major service, specifically the 300,000 km service. Noks was my assigned service advisor. After the service, I reviewed the comments on my invoice and noticed the following points: Aftermarket battery fitted, Oil leak, Uneven wear on the tires. Additionally, I had been experiencing rattles and knocking sounds from my rear wheels prior to the service, but none of this was mentioned in the commentary section of the invoice. When I brought these 3 comments to the attention of Noks, I requested that the comments regarding the battery and tyres be removed, as this was not relevant to the service, she called a person by the name of Melanie, who informed me that they could not remove the comments because it is the dealership's duty to point out any faults found during the service. This is a bull**** excuse, and I will prove this below: If this is indeed the case, then I must ask why your dealership failed to identify several other critical issues with my vehicle, including A badly damaged and leaking rear left shock absorber, 2 link arms damaged, 2 control arm bushes needing replacement. A major coolant leak around the thermostat, The condition of the timing chain, which should have been inspected as part of this major service. None of these issues were mentioned in the commentary section, despite their significance. These faults were later identified by an RMI-approved workshop, Custom Care Auto Centre, based in Chatsworth, Durban. I initially booked my vehicle with them to address the oil leak diagnosed by your dealership, only to find out there were additional problems that had not been identified during your inspection. I have attached the repair center’s invoice for your reference. Is this the standard of service that customers can expect from your dealership? I find it unacceptable that such critical issues were overlooked, especially during a major service where thoroughness is paramount. I would appreciate a prompt response addressing these concerns and an explanation of how such oversights occurred.
