Pete from Barnfire Projects was recommended by a gas fireplace supplier/ manufacturer for the installation of a new gas fireplace in our newly renovated home. I met with him in early June 2020, and after consultation and confirmation that installation would be certifiable; he quoted us for the installation of the fireplace as well as an installation of a gas hob. On request of whether we had already ordered the fireplace from the manufacturer, I said no and he assured me, as he deals with them all the time and has is a customer of theirs that he can add the fireplace to his quote. He will then place the order as he can push them along with the order and perhaps shorten the turnaround time. Decision made we paid an 85% deposit to Barnfire for the complete job; fireplace and installation. I was then advised turnaround time would be 10-14 days due to slight delay from manufacturer due to Covid-19 Lockdown. No calls from Pete to advise status or delivery of fireplace. I always had to call and follow up with him. After 4 weeks and again me calling him; I was advised there was a shipment of fireplaces coming from Cape Town to Jhb in the next few days and he is sure ours would be there. I waited the few days and even two more; still no update from Pete. So I called again, and this time advised that there seemed to be a staff problem at the manufacturer and he is not quite sure but our fireplace should be in Jhb. I contacted the manufacturer directly and when asked for the contact person I had; I was advised she is no longer with them. I explained my situation and was advised they would look into it and get back to me. Turns out the person from the manufacturer was dismissed for third party dealings of which it was later confirmed the third party was Barnfire Projects. It was also confirmed that my order was not placed as there was no deposit or payment made for the fireplace. I requested the proof of payment from Pete to the manufacturers, but this was never forthcoming; only excuse after excuse. I then eventually cancel my order with Pete and requested my deposit back; this took a couple of days and a after a few excuses later I did get my deposit back. I am grateful for this but I would not recommend Pete from Barnfire Projects. the dealing with him were very poor, a lot of talk and excuses and promises of getting back to me never met. Always had to chase him. And now to also know that the person from the manufacturer was working with him to de***** the manufacturer and possible client/ customers has left an even more distasteful feeling regarding my dealings.
