Disgruntled Customer

My son purchased a Ford vehicle from Bargain Autos Goodwood in July with the expectation that it was in good mechanical condition. Unfortunately, the vehicle developed serious engine problems within seven days of purchase after travelling less than 550 km.

Independent assessments by Ford and an independent workshop concluded that the engine had pre-existing defects and had previously undergone major engine work, which was not disclosed at the time of sale. An insurance claim submitted to Innovation was rejected because the defects were determined to be pre-existing rather than new mechanical damage.

The estimated repair costs range between R90,000 and R180,000, which is close to the purchase price of the vehicle. Despite these findings, we have been disappointed by the lack of meaningful engagement and resolution from the dealership. The matter has since been referred to legal representatives for assistance.

My advice to prospective buyers is to have any used vehicle independently inspected before purchase and to ask detailed questions about its repair history. I hope this matter will eventually be resolved fairly and in accordance with consumer protection laws.
