Won't pay for a relatively cheap PSA blood test without pre-approval or authorization

My Doctor requested blood tests, one of which was the PSA as I am over 45, which Bankmed refuses to pay the R209.50 for because I did not have pre-approval/ Authorize it with Bankmed. I find this arbitrary rule utter ridiculous and very disappointing in this day and age of prevention is better than cure and for the sake of men’s health, where all over the whole world men are be encourage to get tested from 40 onwards… It is not any form of surgery or hospital procedure or something we do for fun… it is vital that men get checked. Why are is Bankmed been so unreasonable? Why do we need Pre-approval and the Doctors to motivate why… Come on…seriously. We pay thousands of Rands every month for this lousy service!!! I am disgusted!!! Why must we be inconvenienced by this now having to get permission/ approval and a doctors motivation for a simple R200 blood test. As I have already spoken to the call center, and informed basically that is the rule…and that’s it! So I am now taking this to social media and Men’s Health Magazine and I find this totally unacceptable.
