WHY SO MANY EXCLUSIONS?

Since Discovery took over the administration, Bankmed has really gone down hill in terms of service. I always thought Bankmed was the best as it was basically the only medical aid that had you covered for everything. Since the beginning of lastyear, there have been so many exclusions. Bankmed does not pay for any vitamins what so ever, this actually makes no sense at all. If myself or one of my family members were to fall ill, we would have to spend on dr's fees and medication that would take a huge chunk out of our savings whereas if we were able to get vitamins it would prevent us from getting sick and our savings would not be depleted as fast. The ironic part is that Discovery covers all over the counter medication but Bankmed does not. Really disappointing service, I used to be so impressed with Bankmed especially when I fell pregnant 3 years ago, they covered everything especially prenatal vitamins but when I fall pregnant again i'm sure I would have to fork out money to buy these vitamins.

Hi Miksha

Thank you for your post

Just as a way of clarity, medicines that are schedule 0, 1 and 2 are called over-the-counter medicines. These are covered from your Medical Savings Account (MSA) provided that you have funds available. Vitamins and supplements may be covered from your MSA if medically necessary as long as you use a provider who is appropriately registered with the Board of Healthcare Funders (BHF), and provided that this product has a valid tariff code or NAPPI code, ICD-10 code and price.

when I try to get basic vitamins on my medical aid, it says schedule 5 exclusion. I've been to a few pharmacies and the same thing comes up on the system even though it does have a valid NAPPI code.

Hi Miksha

Due to reason that the particular vitamins you are trying to claim for are schedule 5 exclusion, these will not be covered by the Scheme and you are required to pay this from your own pocket.

We are truly sorry that we are unable to provide you with your desired feedback however, we can assure that the Scheme is acting within the rules and regulation on your specific chosen plan type.
