Before getting my prescription glasses, I went to the Bankmed website to check the benefits I had. One of the benefits on their website was a 20% discount if you are paying cash at an optometrist. Now because I did not have enough funds in my medical aid savings account, I only claimed for the lenses and eye test against the medical aid, and opted to pay cash for the frame. Upon calling bankmed as required in order to redeem the 20% discount, which according to the two pager on their website should be discounted upon making payment, I was sent from pillar to post. Most of the people I spoke to when I called numerous times told me they were not aware of the benefit. My case was since referred to management, who blatantly refused to paying siting an error. What boggles my mind is that when I checked their website, the benefit has been there in the previous years, and each year it's updated. The current one for 2022 has changes compared to the 2021 year, but the 20% benefit is still there. I find it unacceptable that bankmed would advertise benefits which they refuse to honor when one claims. It is unacceptable for them to tell me that I should just ignore the whole matter, and move on. I am still in possession of the documents with the 20% discount, which I believe Bankmed needs to honor.
