Passing the Buck

The Louis Leipoldt Mediclinic in Cape Town contacted me on 27 May 2015 regarding an outstanding account from 7 January 2012. I was a dependant on a Late/Deceased member's Medical Aid Policy at Bankmed. The main member passed away in August 2012. Bankmed created a debit 3 years after the date of admission and treatment on the account in the amount of 2923.72 hence the hospital contacted me to settle the account. I've sent emails to Bankmed regarding the matter and their response was that payments on the accounts to the hospital were reversed, because they received a membership certificate from Discovery Health confirming that I, was an active member on Discovery from 1 January 2012. Hence I, was resigned on 31 December 2011 from Bankmed, because I cannot be on two medical aids at the same time. I joined Discovery mid-December 2011 but was told that my membership might only be active end of January hence I used my Bankmed details at the hospital. I would like to question Bankmed's claims department on making a payment to the hospital after a member has been resigned, without informing the member of such reversal on the account. I was on a medical aid at the time of treatment.
