I’M BEYOND APPALLED .
I have been a member of Bankmed for the past 3 years and I have had problems with them but it wasn't issues that I couldn’t handle .
This now is taking it to an extra level , I resigned from the bank and today at 14:30 I received a call from this person saying they calling from Bankmed saying since I have utilized all my medical savings . I need to pay an amount of R1100.00 since I’m longer going to be a member he said I owe them that amount . How can that be ?
My understanding is my medical savings are allocated to me to use in which way I please to and if depleted I would then then use my own money to cover my medical costs .
I will be taking this matter further to Ombudsman it’s ********* practice.

In order to explain the reason for the amount due to the scheme, we need to take note of the way in which your plan was structured, and how your day-to-day benefits (Medical Savings Account) are calculated.

18 Jun 2019, 23:24Each month, a portion of your premium is allocated towards your Medical Savings Account (MSA). For example, let's assume that the amount allocated from your monthly premium, towards your MSA is R100. This would equate to R1 200.00 (R100.00 x 12) for the year.

18 Jun 2019, 23:24The amount of R1200.00 would be made available to you at the beginning of the year as your annual MSA, to be used for your day-to-day medical expenses, assuming that you would remain on this membership for the full 12 months and “pay back” the advance MSA via your premiums each month.

18 Jun 2019, 23:25The balance of your premium goes towards the risk pool. This would cover all of your in hospital claims where you are not limited to a specific rand value, as you are with the MSA. That is, if your MSA has been depleted you would need to pay for further day-to-day medical expenses out-of-pocket,

18 Jun 2019, 23:25Using this example, if you were to use up the full R1 200.00 and were to withdraw your membership in April, we would not receive the remaining MSA amounts for the months of May to December. Therefore, we would only have received the MSA amounts for the first four months.

18 Jun 2019, 23:26In this case, if you had used up the full MSA advance at the beginning of the year, you would owe the scheme the remaining R800.00 due to an over expenditure of the MSA.
