BankMed worst medical aid ever.
I am writing to formally lodge a complaint again regarding the incorrect application of a late joiner penalty fee to my dependent’s medical aid contributions over the past two years. Despite submitting all required medical certificates to validate that the penalty should not apply, the fee was only partially reduced instead of being fully waived, as it should have been.
Furthermore, I was informed by one of your consultants that I would be reimbursed for the penalty charges app**** in error. However, to date, I have not received any reimbur*****t.
On April 17th, I submitted a request for the recording of my conversation with the consultant who made this commitment, as I intend to escalate the matter to the Council for Medical Schemes (CMS) and the Ombudsman. Nearly two months have passed, and I have yet to receive the recording. According to the Promotion of Access to Information Act (PAIA), failure to respond within 30 days is considered a refusal of access, which I find unacceptable.
Additionally, I would like to express my dissatisfaction with the overall level of service I have received from BankMed. Compared to my previous experience with Discovery Medical Aid, which is also administered by the same group, the contrast in service quality is significant. My dependent was never subjected to a late joiner penalty under Discovery, and the service was consistently professional and responsive.
Unfortunately, my experience with BankMed has been the opposite—from consultant interactions to complaint handling, there has been a consistent lack of accountability and customer care.
I request that this matter be addressed urgently. Specifically, I seek:
A full reimbur*****t of the late joiner penalty fees incorrectly charged.
Should this issue not be resolved promptly within 72 working ours, I will proceed to escalate it to the relevant regulatory bodies.
It is important to note that late joiner penalty reviews are always carefully assessed and updated upon receipt and approval of the necessary medical history. Unfortunately, when medical history details are not provided from the outset, we are unable to process refunds or adjustments from inception. This policy is supported by the Council of Medical Schemes.
