Bankmed Services

I have recently found out that I will be having a baby, which is a joyous time in our lives. So as a precaution I contacted Bankmed to confirm what costs will be covered for the birth of our little one. Having a medical aid should give you peace of mind one would assume, as this is an in hospital claim and everything should be covered, one would assume. To my surprise, the doctor I am using is not on the Bankmed preferred list of doctors, which is fine. So, I filled out a form to get a quotation of how much will be covered of his cost and BankMed will only cover LESS THAN ONE FIFTH of what he charges. When I received the quote I was horrified, I contacted the call centre and they said to me if the doctor is not contracted to them, they cannot do anything. So basically, I have one of two options, I either pay the remaining amount or find another doctor. The call centre agent said to me, if I opt to use a contracted doctor and they should charge the same fees as my doctor, they would cover all the costs. Bottom line, I can only go to someone that Bankmed gets a monetary kick back from, regardless of the members needs or comfort.

What’s worse is that I am not the first person to go through this, and actually I found out this is a common occurrence with Bankmed, so well done Bankmed, on debiting my account every month for the minimal service you prepared to pay for.

I am absolutely disgusted at this medical aid, and unfortunately, due to the environment I work in, I am tied down to have this waste of time medical aid.
