947 Competition

Firstly, I would like to the winner...I am not a 947 listener and now never will be. I certainly did not have to tune into the radio on Wednesday because the entire key-opening ceremony, which involved 21 people happened right outside my front door. I own the apartment right next door to the that was being given away, I share a kitchen wall, I couldn't be closer to if I tried. It was only on Tuesday afternoon, after returning from work having suffered a traumatic experience, did I put two and two together that the apartment being advertised in the newspapers and I assume on 947 was the one right next door to mine. It also explained the constant drilling and hammering that had gone on, most noticeably this past Sunday morning, when it clearly states that in the rules of conduct that no excessive noise is to be made before 9am on Sunday morning. I was woken up by loud drilling way earlier than 9am.

Any sound outside my front is as clear as day and on Tuesday I heard a neighbour talking to a contractor I assume was from Balwin's. I opened my door in the hopes of finding out what exactly was going on and why we had been told absolutely nothing. Both the other owner and myself, knowing nothing, had read the competitions terms and conditions and were horrified to read that it started at 6am, there would be 21 people attending and presenter would be broadcasting live. I was already upset and wanted to know we had been told nothing. He, the foreman, agreed that Balwin should have informed us but really it was no skin off his teeth and really I had no right to get upset or feel frustrated. The more dismissive he became the angrier I got. I shut the door and his team began drilling at 6:30pm, there was no knock on the door afterwards to apologies for the noise, a simple acknowledgement that I was upset and a simple apology on behalf of Balwin would have sufficed.

In a state of fury and no consideration from anyone involved, I emailed the Estate Manager and any contact I had at Balwin. Nothing. When Wednesday morning rolled around,after people traipsing up and down the steps, checking the lock, having a look around...I got ready for work. Then they came, 21 people and Franki, the presenter. He was evidently standing right outside my door! In one video I was sent, the number of my flat is clearly visible behind him, this is a breach of my privacy, nevermind the 21 people literally on my doorstep. I heard every key being turned, I hear every gasp, I heard her footstep, I heard how Steve from Balwin played along with every key that didn't turn. I clearly heard what Franki was saying, to I assume, his station manager before calling up the next 7. I know, having worked in the film industry that you don't just walk into a live recording. I was generous enough not to. Balwin properties and 947 should compensate me handsomely for not opening my door because it's very hard to live edit the expletives that would have come out of my mouth. I simply cannot believe that both companies could be so blatantly rude and downright selfish to not give me the heads up that this is what my Wednesday morning would look like. I work with children and having already suffered a trauma, I was now stuck inside my flat, missing a very important appointment, where if anything had happened the responsibility of it would have fallen squarely on my shoulders. I was in a state of panic and the very last thing I wanted to do was walk slap bang into 21 screaming people and The Breakfast Club. Please note all the live footage that was shot and the amount of people outside my door and down the stairwell.

It's Thursday evening, I have been sent no apology or explanation as to how and why I was left in the dark with not a s**** of information. Not an email explaining what was happening, not even an estimated time that could expect 21 people on my doorstep. None. As an owner and an investor in Balwin Properties I am hurt, angry and mortified that this is their business practice. I own my apartment, it is in no way the property of Balwin and they cannot act like it is and disrespect my personal space like they did, it's like if I decide to pull up with a film crew and 21 rent-a-crowd outside their door because...well...I have a raffle to give-away. In the same breath, what kind of Body Corporate allows this to happen and not mention it to the Home Owner who will be directly effected!!????? Firstly, it's a fire hazard (please see the footage again) and secondly...13.1.4 in the Code of Conduct states: No owner or occupier of any section shall practice or cause to be practiced in any part of the common property, including his exclusive use area and/ or section, any hobby or activity, such as meetings, gatherings, weddings, funerals, etc. of any nature to which other owners or occupiers might object and must comply with all relevant council by-laws. I would like a clear answer that I might have missed in the Code of Conduct to substantiate what happened on Wednesday morning.

I am truly mystified as to how Balwin and 947 could have acted in such a manner. Since purchasing my apartment earlier this year I have experienced only positvity and a lot of communication, how the level of disrespect and total disregard crept into this situation, I have no idea. I want answers and in some way my faith to be restored in the huge investment I've made. To be pushed aside for an advertising campaign in such a unapologetic, selfish manner is unacceptable and downright hurtful.

Someone needs to answer for this sooner rather than later.
