Irresponsible Bakers Transport

I was involved in a collision with a Bakers Transport truck on the N2. Upon stopping at the scene of the accident, the drivers of the Bakers Transport truck were very helpful and concerned. Among many other considerate actions, they assured me that the camera on their truck would have recorded the scene of the car that caused the accident speeding away from the scene. They said that the company would likely give me a call the following week. I waited a week before attempting to contact the company. No one answered their telephone and I gave up after numerous attempts. Surprisingly, I then received a call from a lady who did not identify herself except to say that she's phoning me because I had attempted to call Bakers Transport. I thanked her for returning my attempted call and proceeded to request the video footage from the accident scene. She was immediately defensive and at first denied that there would be any camera footage. After hearing what the drivers had told me, she then conceded that there is footage but said that they could not provide it to me in terms of the POPI Act. When I attempted to correct her interpretation of the POPI Act, she pretended that the line had become poor and that she could no longer hear me. I subsequently attempted to contact the company through the contact form on their website. After writing a detailed request, their system came up with a "Server Error" when I hit the Send button. As a road transport company, one would expect Bakers Transport to be supportive of any attempts to make our roads safer by pursuing the prosecution of reckless and dangerous drivers. Unfortunately their sense of corporate social responsibility seems woefully inadequate or even non-existent.
