Accommodation

Booked a standard room at Bain's Game Lodge for the 31st of Dec'20 to the 1st of Jan'21 through Agoba with a special request of a double bed. What a disappointing experience!!! Upon checking in the receptionist was fiendly at least. When we went to our room we found two single beds and not a double bed. There were also no sanitising products in the room. The door to the patio had a broken lock, a small latch kept the door closed. If using the slightest little bit of force anybody could enter the room. Only one chair on the patio and we were two guests. The ashtray on the patio has not been cleaned for quite a while. Not very hygienic. We went back to reception to enquire about the double bed and was told that there is no double beds available in standard rooms, explained the special request upon booking and she mentioned that it is not possible. The receptionist contacted a lady from bookings and she advised that they could place us in a cabin for the night, change the bedding in the rooom to suit our needs and then we can move back to the room the following day. We did not accept this as a resolution as it would disrupt our stay after driving for 11 hours. We wanted to relax without disruptions before starting the next long journey. The bookings lady then agreed that she will arrange for the bedding requirements to be changed the following morning, and we accepted it. We are now on our next journey and stull now changes has veen made to the bedding, empty promises was made. In the room there were only two mugs and two glasses for two people for a stay of two days, no teas**** or any kind of cutlery to use to make coffee. This is not a self catering unit, therefore we do not have the facilities to wash and clean crockery and cutlery. The lodge should have placed an adequite supply of tea, coffee, milk, mugs, glasses, teas****s etc. or at least came in every day to clean and fill up. This is a facility that advertise free wifi usage as well. We had to contact reception for the wifi login details, it was not provided at check in. We alsk battled to stay connected, connection was extremely poor. We mentioned to the reception ladies that all of these would result in bad reviews for the lodge and they did not seem to care, which is quite concerning. There are pubs and restaurants on the property that is not owned by the lodge, but they do cater for the lodge visitors. Upon check-in we enquired whether the restaurant was open as we know that pubs are not allowed to open during the current lockdown requlations. We were assured that the Bushpub restaurant was open and that we are more than welcome to enjoy our evening meal there. Needles to say we ended up at a closed facility at 17:00 in the afternoon. Hungry and already irritated with the poor service we received at the lodge we had to get into our vehicle and drive again to find something to eat. We have made use of Bains in the past, that was the reason we booked there again. However, they will never again see us, the bad quality of accommodation, poor service and no care attitude from the staff has made the final decision for us. Please spare yourself the headache and drama, it is not worth it, not even for a quick stopover.
