Baic Beijing x55- 2 YEARS OF HELL- DO NOT BUY
Took delivery of my car in June 2023.
First service: October 2023 Reported rattles and suspension noises. Car was returned without fixing these as they "were not heard"
2 December 2023: Vehicle suddenly overheated with smoke coming out of the bonnet. Was left stranded on the side of the road as it had to be towed away. The vehicle was only returned on 13 December 2023 and to date I have not received any documents or records on what was repaired. I was without a car for 11 days and no courtesy car given. Informed verbally that the radiator fan did not function, needing replacement and to date nobody can assure me that the engine or radiator itself was not permanently damaged after overheating. Apparently a used radiator fan from a demo model was installed which was wrong in so many ways.
15 March 2024 Aircon whistling and weak (not sure if the aircon was damaged when the vehicle overheated as it did cut out at the time) Rattles and suspension creaks were now much worse. Informed BAIC and took it through to the nearest service centre. Was told the creaking was due to the spare tyre and jack in the boot, which was a lie as those were taken out and the noise still persisted.
25 October 2024 Took the vehicle in for its second service and reported the noises to be much louder now. Was told that it is still possibly the spare tyre and jack creaking (which is a lie). Was informed that a charge of R1100 per hour is needed to check further.
My first Hello Peter review prompted some action: https://www.hellopeter.com/baic-south-africa/reviews/warning-stay-away-from-the-beijing-x55-***
Miraculously, the car was approved for inspection and repairs after posting my review of Hello Peter. It was found that rear suspension parts were loose. BAIC does not care about safety it seems if such serious matters are ignored and only fixed at a later stage. Got the car back in November 2024.
Powered through until 2025 with: 1. Creaking and rattling on an ongoing basis (Drivers window, dashboard, passenger door, drivers seat) 2. Random beeps (could be warning lights but who knows? as they are gone in less than a second) 3. Weak aircon
September 2025: 1. Noticed paint bubbling/ peeling on a panel- Taken in for inspection and BAIC authorized a respray as no clear coat was app**** to that panel during production??? What else was forgotten? 2. Front suspension grinding/ knocking noise at low speeds without braking- Taken for inspection. Front suspension parts found to be loose and needed tightening. Despite this concerning revelation, the problem is still not solved.
BAIC does not care about your safety. I have been left stranded on 3 occasions without a courtesy vehicle and my life is in danger with so many breakdowns happening. Either I am driving an unsafe car, stranded on side of the road, or have to make use of Uber.
Clearly I have been sold a defective vehicle both inside (engine and suspension) and outside (body panel). As I drive now, the car is permanently damaged from overheating (engine/ cylinder head failure in future), loose suspension components (suspension collapse or broken axle in future) as well as inferior panel/ paint (rusting in future). I must also put up with the orchestra of rattling and squeaking. These defects will result in excessive costs in future when the warranty is over.
I have run out of patience and will consider getting a legal opinion/ engagement with Ombudsman (with all referenced incidents). I have been in contact with artists willing to assist with custom artwork to make BAIC trend for the wrong reasons.
Samples: Bonnet/ Hood: CAUTION: BAIC engines overheat. Windows: CAUTION: BAIC windows and doors rattle Door panels front: CAUTION: BAIC front suspension loose Door panels rear: CAUTION: BAIC rear suspension loose Bumpers: CAUTION: BAIC panels rust
I have been sold a lemon and given up hope with this brand. There have been way too many incidents in 2 years of ownership. This car is rotten both inside and out. Issues raised within months of ownership are still being diagnosed and fixed now, which has permanently damaged the car. Make this right before you see my car all over social media dragging your brand through the mud.
