Normally, I post a short piece on HelloPeter to complain about the usual terrible service one receives on a regular basis, but today I can hand a bouquet to Back to Wood. First, I was unable to find a good company to service my sash windows; twice I was let down; and then, third time lucky I suppose, I found a team that is actually serious about delivering a proper service. Tim Chaplin stands at the head of “Back to Wood”, and has put together a competent and efficient team to provide, amongst others, support and servicing of sash windows. So it is that a division of Back to Wood, that specialises in Sash Window Servicing, serviced my two sash windows in July 2026. This involved replacing the chords, the counterweights, and other internals. They also replaced three windowpanes. The job took 4,5 hours, start to finish: This involved, taking apart the window frames, replacing interior weights and adding wood strips to guide the sliding windows up and down. It concluded with tidying up afterwards and a debriefing by team leader, Alex. In a country where good service is rather scarce, what a pleasure it was to deal with people who are just professional in an almost “old school” way. They know what to do and go about their work professionally and in good spirit. I’m not easily impressed, but what a pleasure it was to watch this team go about their work and complete it in half a day. I expected it to take two days. So, thank you, Tim Chaplin, Alex, Ashley (senior team member: 14 years’ experience) and team, for a job well done. In the end, it turns out that good, old-fashioned service still exists. Thank you.
