Baby City New Redruth Alberton

On Sunday, 31 August, I went to Baby City New Redruth Alberton intending to buy the Baby Things Sky I-Size car seat because it was advertised as part of a promotion.

When I could not find any stock on the shelf, I asked a gentleman for assistance. He went to the back and returned saying there was no stock available. I then asked if he could please check which other Baby City branches had stock. After going to the back again, he came back and said that unfortunately no Baby City in South Africa had stock as there were supplier issues due to “Donald Trump’s tax issues.”

We explained that this felt like false advertising, since the item was being promoted on TikTok, Baby City’s website, and Dis-Chem, yet it was not available anywhere. We left it at that and tried to look for something else.

I then saw a bouncer that I wanted to purchase and asked a lady for assistance. She returned with the same gentleman, who informed us that the bouncer I wanted was discontinued. I then asked about the one next to it, and he again said it was discontinued. He mentioned he could check and give us a discount on the one that was on display. After going to the back once more, he offered 25% off. However, both display chairs were extremely dirty and not in a sellable condition, especially since they cannot be washed.

I must say, I was very disappointed and unhappy with the experience. This is not the service I expected from Baby City. I went there ready to buy, but instead left the store frustrated and upset. The whole experience felt unprofessional and discouraging.
