No return of goods purchased

I bought a bottle warmer at baby boom clearwater on thursday, when i went top tyne store to return it, unopened i was told that they don't exchange electrical appliances and when i asked why was a this information not shared with me when i bought i was basically told not in so many words to go to hell. I'm ev en telling them the bottle warmer is still in its packaging because the person i bought it for said she has already and can i exchange it for something else. the staff wouldn't even give me the managers name they basically said i must ask it myself. This is shocking for such a big franchise.
