Abused Covid-19 to get out of a job

Would you use a company that agreed to supply and fit your aluminium windows, but then lies to you that they have been in contact with a Covid-19 positive person and have to self-isolate for 10 days, and therefore best if you find a different supplier? If the answer is no, then you don't have to read further, because this is exactly what Ayres Aluminium did to me.

We selected Ayres Aluminium from three suppliers to fit about R100,000 worth of windows at our home. Alan was very pro-active, asked excellent questions, had great suggestions, and his price was good. I gave Alan at least 2 weeks notice before he had to come measure the windows. He came to measure the windows, but then after a few days he informed us that him and his manufacturing staff came into contact with a Covid-19 positive person, they need to self-isolate, and that "he would understand if we find another supplier". Alan even went as far as to milk our sympathy, by saying things like it is an "emotional time for me" etc. My wife and I felt that we should absorb the cost and schedule impact as a result of this, it didn't seem fair towards Alan that we find a different supplier given this unfortunate event.

But we wanted to be sure that we could trust Alan going fwd, as some of the things he said did not make sense. So we got a friend to phone Alan and ask for a quote. Alan was available and effectively shared his calendar for the next week with her. My wife then confronted Alan, and asked him to provide doctor's certificates to prove that him and his staff has Covid-19. This is where Alan used words like "it blows his mind" that we would check up on him, and he owes us nothing, whilst affirming his Covid-19 story. Alan now clearly informed us that we must find a different supplier, he will not work with us.

Unfortunately for Alan, I work 1.1km from his factory, so swung by there one afternoon to see a factory floor full of workers that have no knowledge of the Covid-19 story.

Alan then called me a "stalker", and asked me what would "possess" a person to come to his workshop.

Well Alan, if you are reading this. You cost me money, you exhibit unprofessional behavior, you are a ****, an abuser of a serious situation (Covid-19) and you are a spineless shifter of blame.

What "possessed" me to visit your factory and write this review - it is the least I could do to the benefit of everybody else reading this (except you of course).
