Unprofessional and ********* conduct by a law firm in Potchfestroom

Hello there. I will try to summarise my heartbreaking experience with one of your property developments: Mooirivier Apartments in Potchefstroom.

My rental fees were handled by my sponsor in 2018 and according to their accounts, they have been paid in full. Early 2019 I receive a letter from Awie Wright Lawyers claiming my account is in arrears by one month. I contact them to clarify there might be a mistake and they claim they just handle the legal side of things, the accounting part was done by the residential property people. I contact Mooirivier Apartments in Potchefstroom (the residential place I stayed at in 2018) to try to resolve the matter.

They are of no help, telling me if a matter has been handed over to the lawyers already, they cannot assist. I arrange with my sponsor to send me proofs of payments for all 12 payments for the year of 2018, and a screenshot of their books regarding my rental fees. They send them to the lawyers directly and the lady we spoke to (her name is Jackie), promises to investigate the matter with Mooirivier Apartments and get back to us ASAP. This was in May 2019.

A week later no communication from the lawyers. I call them to find out the status of the matter, Jackie rudely shoves me off, telling me they need time and she cannot do anything at this point but wait.

It is August now and a sheriff has been sent to my parents, threatening arrests if the amount is not settled as soon as possible. Not only that, we have received two letters in our post, still claiming my account is in arrears and if not settled, the matter will be escalated. I call Jackie again, right after receiving the second later, and again, she tells me she's waiting for an "attorney" to investigate. It seems to me all the conversations and proofs and documents they asked from me and my sponsor to prove we have paid in full, were all in vain, Nothing was being done from May till now. It seems neither Awie Wright Lawyers nor Mooirivier Apartments are willing to relook their accounting books to try match my sponsor's (the payer) books.
