Zero service, Zero refund

On 15 January we rented a car from Avis for the first and last time. Collecting the car at OR Tambo Airport and having to drop the car in Vereeniging as we reside in Vanderbijlpark. Upon returning the car after 19:00 the evening it came to our surprise that Avis was closed. We contacted the number visible in the window. This is when the T’s and C’s were actually explained. That we had to leave the car there in the parking area and we will still be held liable for the car until inspection the following morning. I informed the lady of what the huge risk would be for a car that does not even belong to us, thus I asked if we could take the car back to our complex where it will be secure then we just return it the following morning when they open. This is when we’re advised that if we choose to do that we will be charged for another day??? The lady said that the people at the airport did not give us all the relevant information but that was them and this is what they are telling us. Is Avis not Avis everywhere? 20:00 the evening my partner and I had to drive to OR Tambo to return the car there as leaving it outside in Vereeniging and still being liable just sounded absurd!! Till this day we are still awaiting our deposit. Being sent from pillar to post, it was supposed to be in by Friday 26/01/2018 as we receive the invoice already.
