Wrongfully Charged

On the 05 August 2016, I went to Avis Car hire at Amanzimtoti Durban to hire a car on my arrival at 15:30, I spoke the gentle man by the name of Rick Chellan, who was doing the booking for me and apparently he is the branch manager, so upon trying to access the authorisation from my credit card, he couldn’t as I didn’t have enough funds on my credit card. Upon hearing that I tried to get hold of my Bank which is FNB to understand what would have happened as I had topped my credit card in the morning via the internet banking but still was not reflecting on my credit card, in trying to get hold of my bank, I went through their call centre department which took forever to answer the call as I being transferred through various department with no fun, the whole process to around 35minutes. AVIS personnel advised me to go to the bank maybe they might help, so I drove to Galleria Mall which was the closest but they themselves couldn’t help as the money was still not reflecting even after I had topped it again while I was at the bank and I was told it takes round about 12hours to reflect.

So upon my return to the AVIS branch from the bank around 16:45, I told them what had happened and Mr Rick Chellan did a pre authorisation via speed point of the value of R 2000 and that was at 16:57 and it went through. So I was asked to sign forms and put my initials next to the asterix as this was it was waiver cost just in case the car is involved in accident or theft, so I did as I was requested.

I took the car on the 05/08/16 and returned it on the 08/08/16 in good condition with full tank of patrol and that was at 16:30, so they claimed that I was late as I had took the car at 15:10 on Friday so I disputed this as I had the receipt proof of the transaction that too place at 16:57 on Friday the 05/08/16, so they agreed on that they will reimbursed me after 6 days. So I’m doing all this with an understanding that my booking for 3days was for the amount of R 1340.22 plus levy of R 64.04 Standard cover as my telephonic booking was reflecting that ********** 2ZA5. So when I went back to the branch today in trying to find out about the reimbur*****t, so upon my surprise today, I find out that I had been put under a Super Cover charges without my knowledge and there is signatures to prove that, so contested it with Mr Ricky Chellan that I had been wrongly charged as my booking was for the Standard Cover and there were possible mistakes that might have taken place. His response was he doesn’t make mistakes as he has been with company for over 20years but he said he will get back to before the end of the day and nothing happened since.

So I have logged a complaint with the Head Office and I’m still waiting for the feedback as they said they will get hold of him and try to find out what might have happened.

Upon my digging and trying to find out about MR Rick Chellan, he doesn’t have a good track record within AVIS as he has been demoted a couple of times and when I spoke to the old staff that use to work with him they were surprised that he was a branch manager as he was mostly in competent in his work.

To these are the people that AVIS put in to management position in dealing with policies and procedures, very ***********
