************ business practice.
My husband and I had rented a vehicle from Avis, OR Tambo on the evening of 24th December with the intention of driving it home to Newcastle, KZN and returning it to the Newcastle Branch the next morning.
When we collected the vehicle, Avis protocol was not observed as we did not have any Avis representative inspect the car for any existing damage. We checked the car as best as we could as lamens, and we didn't see any issues in the dimly lit parking garage.
When we arrived in KZN, the vehicle was parked in the garage until we returned it. When we returned the vehicle in Newcastle we were alerted that there was hail damage on the right hand side of the roof of the car. We had not picked this up as it wasn't clearly visible when we picked up the car.
This damage could not have taken place while the car was in our possession as there was no hail over Christmas in JHB or Newcastle, this can be proven with the weather report for that evening.
My issue is that now we have been sent an invoice for over R7000, an acceptance of debt form that we need to sign and we are now being threatened that we will be handed over if we don't make the first payment 31 January. How is that ethical practice if: 1. The initial inspection wasn't done nor did we ever see a report of the state of the vehicle when we took possession. 2. The weather conditions on the night do not match this so called damage 3. No feedback has been given and yet the deposit is no longer on hold but now deducted from our account.

Still no update. And yet money has been deducted from our account. Can you please advise what's going on. We are getting closer to this "deadline" to make first payment with a threat of being handed over but now its radio silence.

We did receive an email that the amount has been credited but the invoice states that there is net amount of R2558.75 that we are due to pay which we asked clarity on, and we have not gotten a response from Grace Mkatshwa.
We had R4500 deducted from our account already, can you please clarify if this amount will be refunded to us and that we do not owe Avis anything further?

I haven't gotten any further feedback about the refund. We have requested an update whether it has been processed yet and when we can expect it and we have not gotten a response. The person handling the account, Grace, has no gone silent since last week Wednesday and I am unable to reach her on the phone. Could someone please assist.
