TRYING TO CHARGE FOR DAMAGE NOT CAUSED AND ACTUALLY COVERED!!!

I have just received notification via my travel consultant that I am being billed for damages to a vehicle which I rented on Monday and Tuesday. I called the call centre and had to deal with someone who was actually quite rude and did not assist me. This is not acceptable at all!

Apparently the vehicle has a cracked windscreen. There are two issues with the damage being claimed.

FIRST ISSUE

1. If the windscreen was cracked there would have been something easily noticed by myself or indeed by the passenger in my vehicle.

2. When handing back the vehicle, we were running late to check in for our flight and there was no-one readily available to assist in checking the vehicle.

3. This resulted in our handing the key over without overseeing the check ourselves.

SECOND ISSUE

1. When renting the vehicle I took out and was charged for windscreen and tyre damage cover.

2. The agent who completed the form without this, and I then insisted that I wanted it.

3. We still joked about how necessary it is to take out the cover in South Africa,

4. This conversation took place in front of my passenger.

5. The rental agent told me to then make a cross on the form and initial there.

6. Fortunately I have the form in my possession. (copy scanned and attached.)

Under no circumstances, given both of the above issues may Avis charge me for the damage “claimed” to have been caused by me.

I would also like to know how to go about reporting unprofessional behaviour by a call centre operator to a customer.

Please acknowledge this complaint, and that I will not be charged for the “claimed” damage.
