Terrible Avis Experience
I was returning a vehicle that I was issued from First Car rental.
Firstly I'm not fami**** with Cape Town International Airport and how to navigate to the car rental side. I park the vehicle near Avis car bays and proceed to walk to First Car rental. There were other cars parked in front of me I naturally assumed this where park for an inspector to assess the vehicle. I entered First Car Rental’s offices and conclude my query I had with them and ask them to receive the vehicle that I was returning. Apon arrival to where I parked I notice the vehicle has been clamped and I ask what's the meaning of this because I'm not fami**** with rules with the different rental companies. I was then instructed to head to Avis Car Rental in order for the clamp to be released.
I met with an Indian man who’s I assume is second in charge because the manager was not available to attend to my matter and I expressed to him the reason why I parked where I parked is because I'm not fami**** with the Airport. He listened and maintained that I have to pay a fee of R500 to release the vehicle or alternatively return to First Car Rental and address the matter with them.
First Car Rental didn't entertain my my matter and instructed me to go back to Avis. I am highly frustrated at this point and I've expressed my feelings to the Indian gentleman at Avis. He also does not engage with me with regards to the matter and instructs me I must pay the fine in order to get the vehicle released.
In my attempt to pay the fine, I am then told to pay in cash because their card facility is assigned to a different entity that frustrated me even further.
The matter got escalated to the point SAPS was involved. The police arrived on the scene and mediated the situation. The manager only then availed herself at this point. She's also an Indian lady and instructed I negotiate a discount with her in order to release the vehicle. It is was also requested in cash.
In order for me to get the vehicle released I had to then be escorted by the police to go withdraw money inside Cape Town International Airport and return to pay the fine.
Apon my return she addressed me and belittled my upbringing and I took high offense and instructed I must verbal apologise and admit guilt in order for the vehicle to be released.
I took high racial offense to this. In order to get the vehicle released I had to adhere to such.
It's unfortunate I can't upload picture I wanted to attach the invoice I was issued.
Long story short I am further escalating the matter with Avis.
