Avis is the only car rental that requires the booking to be prepaid, which is okay until you need to be refunded. I'm not told that it is sent to Europe and I will only get my refund after 15 working days. The initial booking was for 14 days and I then called in to change it to 7 days; and that was less done in less than 30 minutes of the initial online booking. The issue started when Avis was still charging me the same amount for 14 days although the booking had now been amended and when I called in to request the difference to be refunded I was told that it will only be easier to be refunded if I cancel the booking altogether then request the refund. The lady (Dineo) that assisted me made me hold and spoke to someone else to ask that they cancel the booking so that she can request a refund; that was on the 27th of November. Today, (Friday the 1st of Dec) I call in to follow up on the refund which she said will take 5 to 7 working days and spoke to a Bongani who said I need an authorisation code from my bank although this was not a refund for a deposit but an actual booking fee. I obliged him and called my bank and was told the amount has already been banked by the merchant but the lady was gracious and gave me the code. When I called back with the authorisation code a Bronwyn told me her colleague only sent the e-mail today to request that refund from Europe and will take up to 14 days. NOW HOW DOES A TRANSACTION THAT WAS MEANT TO BE SIMPLE GETS SO FRUSTRATING? WHY DOES AVIS INSIST ON PREPAID BOOKINGS IF THE REFUND PROCESS IS SUCH A MESS? WHY MUST I BE INCONVENIENCED BECAUSE AVIS DOESN'T SEE IT'S SOUTH AFRICAN STAFF AS COMPETENT ENOUGH TO DO MAKE SIMPLE THINGS LIKE REFUNDING THEIR CLIENTS AND MAKE DOING BUSINESS WITH AVIS A PAINLESS EXERCISE? I WANT MY MONEY AND I WANT IT TODAY.
