Poor service from Avis
After having a motor vehicle accident I rented a car via my insurance from Avis and took possession of it on 16 November 2023. It is standard procedure to pay a R2000 deposit upfront, but in this case I had to pay an additional R1500 for insurance (which I never have to pay when renting a car with another company) A hold of R3500 was put on my cheque account that reflected as a debit and outstanding card authorization. I returned the car on 5 December 2023, unfortunately with a small chip in the windscreen that I was not aware of. This chip caused an unnecessary delay in the lifting of the hold on my account. In fact, the damage amounting to R1590.79 was also debited from my account on the 14th of December 2023. Avis sent me an e-mail on 19 December 2023 indicating that they sent a manual request to my bank to have the hold lifted, after I had sent a complaint to the local Avis branch in Bloemfontein. But the hold was not lifted and my available balance on my account did not increase with the R3500. I was utterly disgusted with the service I received from Avis and my bank as I phoned both on several occasions, without any success. Every time when I phone the one, they said I have to phone the other. I sent an angry e-mail on 29 December 2023 and by some miracle the hold was eventually lifted on the 1st or the 2nd of January 2024 - almost a month after returning the car. Believe me, I will never make use of Avis again.
